Situated in one of the « most beautiful villages in France », The Tower of Perfumes, an interactive and fun museum, where the visitor can discover perfumes and aromas, from a scientific and cultural point of view. Exhibitions, conferences, workshops, a 'nose-walk', all offer an informative approach to this universe which awakens your senses.
Medieval village, the old border village between the Kingdom of France and that of Aragon, Mosster retains the marks of its rich past.
As you wander through the small streets, you discover the remains of the remparts, the towers and the walls of the old castle which can still be seen today. You can also visit the chruch of Saint-Julien and Sainte-Baselisse, with its bell tower which is next to a two hundred year of pine tree, and the Capelleta, a small Romanesque building probably dating from the 13th century.
Rebuilt in the 17th century, the church of Saint-Julien and Sainte-Baselisse is, because of its site and its beauty, the proof of the economic growth that Mosset experienced after the Treaty of the Pyrenees (1659). In this vast church, the art of altar pieces found an ideal place to develop fully.
You can also admire the Norway pine tree which had the audacity to grow spontaneously in a corner of the bell tower. Born in the aftermath of the French Revolution, this pine tree is around 200 years old, but only measures 2,9m high!
3km lower down from the village, the chruch of Saint-Julien le Vieux, today in a state of ruin, is a primative church built in the Romanesque era. Nearby, the monastery of Corbiac possesses a church dedicated to Sainte-Marie, probably built in the 13th century, and which contains paintings from the end of the 14th centuary. This monastery today is private property.
Also, 8km higher up from the village, the abbey of Sainte-Marie de Jau which used to be a refuge for travellers on the Saint-Jacques de Compostelle route. A statue of the Virgin, which probably came from this Cistercian abbey is visible near the village church, in a niche of the portal of Sainte-Madeleine.
