Medieval city dating from the 11th century, fortified by Vauban in the 17th century, in the heart of the Pyrenees-Orientales, at the foot of the Canigou.  Listed amongst the Most Beautiful Villages in France, Villefranche is one of 14 sites which comprise Vauban's work and is listed by the UNESCO World Heritage.  Inside the fortifications, in the narrow lanes, you can find picturesque shops and workshops.
