This is a reference to the tympanum of the Assumption, the only remains of the door, now disappeared, which is conserved in the parish church of the village of Cabestany, in the plain of Perpignan. This anonymous sculptor has worked on the Latin Arch (Italy, France, Spain).
The sculpture centre shows relics of hundreds of pieces of work from the 12th century. The advantage is to be able to see up close, these pieces which normally measured from 6 to 9 metres in Romanesque buildings.
In this way, the tympanum of Mary in Cabestany illustrates an « apochyphal evangisit », sent from the heavens and the Virgin's belt to the non-believer Saint Thomas, as proof of Assumption.
