Started in 1324 under the reign of the Sanche de Majorque, the cathedrale was built following the plans for a church with three naves. Work was taken up again in 1433 and transformed into an imposing and unique nave, the collegiate church of St Jean, only consecrated in 1509, it was built into a cathedrale in 1601, taking the place of the seat in Elne.
Its facade in round stones and bricks has remained unfinished. A porch was added in 1631, and it is all the remains of a larger building. The side chapels house beautiful altar pieces in the Catalan baroque style (17th to 18th century).
