Mountains wildlife
The park offers large space, from 300 m. up to 3 000 m. altitude, from the foothills from Canigou to the mountains of Cerdanya and Capcir, bordering Spain and Andorra.
In a green setting, the park of the Catalan Pyrenees includes six natural reserves and five natural sites: the Canigou, “gorges de la Carança”, Bouillouses lakes and the Carlit "desert", Lanoux Lake, the Camporells Circus pond. The forests cover half the territory. Lakes and rivers are everywhere.
A remarkable fauna and flora
The beautiful “Eyne“ valley, nicknamed "Valley of Flowers ", is the place of rendezvous for European botanists since the 18nth century. This garden has 500 plants, including rare and protected species, 57 moths, 30 bumblebees...
The Izard, emblematic animal is present everywhere. Marmots, red deer, roe deer, wild boar and mouflon, live alongside small carnivores such as martens, fox, ermine genets.
The raptors are easy to observe, from the ptarmigan to the bearded vulture, from the golden eagles to the tawny vultures. Without forgetting the 20 species of bats, described as remarkable.
An exceptional historical and cultural heritage
Cradle of Catalonia in the 11th century, Conflent, Capcir and Cerdanya keep abbeys, monasteries and priories and pure masterpieces of Roman art. The cloister from the abbey of Saint-Michel-de-Cuxa and the forum from Priory of Serrabonne represent sculptural treasures.
Witnessed of a tumultuous history, the fortified towns of Mont-Louis and Villefranche-de-Conflent (classified as World Heritage by UNESCO), have been built by Vauban in the 17th century, after the Pyrenees Treaty.
The iron exploitation and the famous Catalan forges from the 19th century have also left their print : the Iron Road epic saga.

The variety of the park allow a multitude of outdoor activities: canyoning, climbing, hiking, adventure park, fishing in rivers or lakes ...
In winter the ski resorts “Les neiges Catalanes” (Catalan Snow) offer all forms of skiing : downhill skiing, cross country skiing, snowboarding, ski-cross, sledding, ice skating ...
Park of the Catalan Pyrenees is an ideal place for hiking, strolling at all seasons: in winter, snowshoeing, sleigh, cross country skiing and in summer: hiking, horseback riding or mountain bike.
Local products
Cheeses, honey, jam, fruit juice ... these farm products are handcrafted, same for the delicatessen, delicious Catalan flavors.
Among fruits, the apple is king and tasty. On the vegetable side it’s the potato, which regains its value.
In the highlands, livestock produce quality meats: beef, lamb, veal and even duck find themselves in ancient recipes. These combine sweet and salty flavors of the mountain and the sea.
