Rugby is a passion in the Pyrenees-Orientals

One certainty: rugby is deeply rooted in the Pyrenees-Orientals

Rugby to XIII or XV? ... What is certain is that in the Pyrenees-Orientals it vibrates for a long time for this sport. We follow with passion the various season of local teams.
Starting, of course, with the blazing standard bearers that are USAP, France champion in 2009 and the Catalans Dragons in the European Super League.

USAP (Rugby XV)

Union Sportive des Arlequins Perpignanais (French) or Unió Esportiva Arlequins de Perpinyà (Catalan), generally abbreviated as USAP in both languages, is a French rugby union club that plays in the city of Perpignan in Pyrénées-Orientales. The club currently competes in the Top 14, the top level of the French league system. USAP finished their most recent season of 2009–10 in first on the Top 14 table, but lost in the championship final to Clermont.

The Catalans Dragons (Rugby XIII)

The Catalans Dragons (sometimes referred to as Les Catalans or the Dragons) are a professional rugby league club based in Perpignan, Pyrénées-Orientales in the south of France. They play in the European Super League and, as UTC in the French Elite One Championship competitions and even though the club was only recently formed they have to date achieved a championship title in 2005 and two consecutive Lord Derby Cups in 2004 and 2005 as well as contesting the English Challenge Cup Final in 2007.

The club was founded in 2001 in Perpignan, France, under the name "Union Treiziste Catalan"; following the merger of the successful XIII Catalan club and close neighbours Saint Estève, and they continue to play in the French Championship under this name, which is often abbreviated to UTC.

They were granted admission into the European Super League, the highest tier of professional rugby league in Europe, in Super League XI, the 2006 season.

XIII Catalan were founded in 1935, and thus were founding members of the French rugby league championship. AS Saint Estève were founded in 1965. Both teams were from Perpignan, in the Catalan region of France.

On 29 July 2007, the Dragons became the first French side and first non-English side to reach the final of the Challenge Cup.

Rugby here is from father to son

Rugby here is village rugby, a spirit of "localism" in the best sense, with its values, its codes, its respect for its courage ...
It’s often a family tradition of sports, the grandfather, father, son, grandparent, son....entire families transmitting and maintaining this noble passion.
But also wives, mothers, supporters or players, they go to the stadium with the same fervor!
Yes, rugby, in the Pyrenees-Orientals, it’s a passion!

If you do not know the sport, find out all the rules.
