The birthplace of prehistoric man

It is in Tautavel, in the Caune de l'Arago, that our "ancestor, Tautavel man, homo erectus", 450 000 years old, was discovered. Belesta, which also housed prehistoric men, has a dolmen and a menhir.

The Cathar Castles

The Agly valley opens onto the mythical Cathare castles built at the borders of Aude and Ariege. The Cathar citadels soar above the Corbieres on rocky pinnacles.
The outline of Queribus Castle can be seen in the distance! From its summit, you can see Peyrepertuse Castle and Aguilar and Puilaurens fortresses.

Amazing nature

Two steps away from Saint-Paul-de- Fenouillet, you enter the formidable cleft in the Galamus gorges. Access via a staircase cut into the rock, to the hermitage of Saint-Antoine de Galamus, used as early as the 7th century by the hermits.
Boucheville forest, deep and rife with paths. It attracts hikers at all levels.

Wines with strong characters

This landscape is a succession of winegrowing villages. The different types of earth, shale, granite and limestone, grow vines which produce wines with strong characters under the label AOC Cotes du Roussillon villages. Four areas use their own names: The AOCs Cotes du Roussillon Villages La Tour de France, Caramany, Lesquerde, Tautavel ...
